Foodie: a port of goodness for the table in the centre of Anzio near Rome

Just a step away from the port of Anzio, where the goodness of the sea arrives, Foodie is a shop for those who love excellence in food.

For those who appreciate the quality of the food and wine selection, with a careful choice of high-end products, and the quality of service capable of telling the story of each individual arrival.

Strolling leisurely through the shops of the seaside town, on a beautiful sunny day, we find a door with glass framed by relaxing greenery. Upon entering, we meet the creator of this “boutique of flavours” with whom we exchange a few words.

Food is communication, Foodie was born from this idea

Marco Della Grotta, managing director, greets us with a smile and we immediately ask him how the idea for Foodie came about.

‘I have been working in communication for many years,’ Marco tells us, ‘and lately with my company we have specialised in major events in the medical and pharmaceutical sector. Events attended by experts from all over the world who, once in Italy, show their interest in quality food’.

The promotion of national food and wine excellence is indeed a strong point of this new branch of his business. ‘Mediterranean food is a subject they love to talk about in order to inform themselves and get to know our country. So I took the idea and developed the concept of human relations by opening this shop to which, despite my other numerous commitments, I devote a lot of care’.

This “boutique” of taste is managed by Riccardo Leone who loves to tell the origin of each product, the processing characteristics, and what makes its flavour special. Riccardo likes to propose original taste combinations and entertain customers by creating relationships of sympathy and trust that enhance the Foodie offer.

Counter and shelves stocked with proposals selected one by one

Behind the long gastronomic counter, there is the smile and courtesy of Eliana serving the customers’ requests. In this shop, there is no trace of product destined for large-scale distribution; the choice is to enhance the territories.

And so, following the rotation of the seasons and the preferences shown by customers, here is freshness neatly displayed in the window. On the shelves the place of honour is reserved for selected labels of reds, whites, sparkling wines and liqueurs that are not easy to find elsewhere.

The shop is also organised for tastings and quick samples, such as the aperitifs that various regulars like to have. Foodie has been open since Christmas 2024 and has found Anzio to be a place that is making a comeback, thanks to new homeowners, including foreigners.

In addition to residents, there are many tourists here who enjoy the sea, the sun, the fresh fish from the harbour, and the proximity of Rome. And now also the culinary specialities that make people talk about themselves and bring taste enthusiasts together.

With the Blog of Rome and Latium Region, Around Rome guides you to discover the territories for the pleasure of satisfying curiosity and putting culture at the service of people and businesses.
